The Department of Biological Sciences is located in the modern two-wing, five-story Laboratory Sciences Center. Well-equipped laboratories are maintained for research and instruction. The department maintains carefully curated and nationally respected collections of terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and plants. Specialized equipment is available for Transmission Electron Microscopy. Scanning Electron Microscopy, Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy, and X-ray fluorescence in the Electron microscope Facility and elsewhere for chromatography, electrophoresis, histology, and many other fields of study. The library and computer center are located in buildings adjacent to the Laboratory Sciences Center. The greenhouse and live-animal facilities are conveniently located between the two wings of the Laboratory Sciences Center. Laboratories for GIS technology and environmental toxicology have recently been constructed. The University operates a large farm suitable for research, and it has several fish ponds at a site within 20 miles of campus. The department maintains the George Harp Environmental Field Station in the central Ozarks.
