Welcome to the Civil Engineering portion of the College of Engineering web site. Our faculty are proud that you have chosen to visit our site. So, welcome. The Civil Engineering program offers engineering educational opportunities in environmental, transportation, water resources, structures and geotechnical areas.

Traditionally, civil engineers have been involved in the following areas:

• Environmental Engineering (Pollution control including the design of water and waste water facilities);

• Water Resources (study of the flow of water over land, under ground and storage);

• Transportation Engineering (design of highways and studies of traffic flow);

• Structural Engineering (design of building, bridges and other related structures);

• Geotechnical Engineering (study of soil behaviors, land slides and other topics).

The civil engineering program of ASU offers courses in all areas of civil engineering with a strong general education component. The faculty are involved in research and solving engineering problems in the community, consulting. These experiences are brought into the classroom so the students can receive a well rounded educational experience. That is, learning of the engineering theory and the practical application of the theory to real world problems.

The Civil Engineering program has an active American Society of Civil Engineers student chapter. The chapter is involved in the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions, social activities and working with local firms. The classroom experiences and working closely with the faculty has sent the steel bridge team to the National Student Steel Bridge Competition in 2000-2005 to compete with the top teams from the United States, Mexico and Japan.

If you wish to learn more about our program at ASU, let me encourage you to set up a campus visit. Do not hesitate to contact me at tparsons@astate.edu or phone at (870) 972-2088 if you have any questions or to arrange a visit.
