Welcome to the web site for the ASU College of Engineering. We are excited that you have chosen to visit us here and hope that you find the information you need. As you will see, we are very proud of our engineering and technology programs at ASU. The College of Engineering continues to change to meet the demanding challenges of education in the 21 st century. However, we never intend to loose sight of our primary obligations. We are committed to providing a quality educational opportunity in the engineering and technology fields for the residents of northeast Arkansas and the region. We believe in promoting excellence in undergraduate education with emphasis on teaching, mentoring, and student learning. And, we believe that we are obligated to fulfill the basic academic expectations of our overall constituency rather than those of a few. Several years ago we began a process to periodically examine all aspects of our programs and to implement a continuous improvement plan to ensure that we are the best that we can be. In that effort, we discovered that our constituency has three fundamental needs: an ABET accredited engineering program, quality faculty and facilities, and jobs for our graduates. We are happy to say that we have no problem in meeting these basic needs and actually provide much more. Our programs are recognized regionally and nationally for their academic excellence and unique educational experience. Our faculty is actively involved in research and consulting and is routinely recognized for their exceptional contributions. Many undergraduates gain valuable experience in research and consulting by working along side the faculty and with local industry. The most common strengths listed by undergraduates are the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable faculty and the camaraderie of their fellow students. We have the only engineering and technology programs in the region that offer a multidisciplinary approach that prepares graduates for the work environment that exists in the real world. Although majoring in a particular concentration area, students in the engineering program as well as those in technology complete coursework with others majoring in engineering or technology. The civil; electrical; and mechanical engineering majors complete a capstone design course working in multidisciplinary teams. We strive to produce graduates that are excellent communicators with ability to apply technological fundamentals to solve modern problems, that are recognized as community leaders and team players, that are involved with economic development while promoting environmental sustainability, that are committed to professional and ethical practice, and that are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and life-long learning. If you are not already a part of our network of faculty, students, alumni, employers and friends, we hope that you will join us soon. We look forward to seeing you on campus, so please contact me at rclifft@astate.edu or call me at 870-972-2088 to schedule a visit to learn more and get involved. Associate Dean |
