One Project Lead-The-Way (PLTW) course can be used to receive college credit at Arkansas State University. The PLTW course titled Principles of Engineering (POE) will be equivalent to 2 semester credit hours and will be substituted for ENGR 1402 – Concepts of Engineering in the ASU Engineering Program. However, since ENGR 1402 is the designated ASU first-year experience course for the Engineering Program, all first-year students are required to register and complete the non-engineering topics portion of ENGR 1402 in order to receive credit for the PLTW course.
The procedures to follow in order to obtain this credit are listed below.
Student completes the PLTW course at PLTW high school
Student earns an 85% average or better in the PLTW course
Student takes the PLTW course college credit exam at the high school and earns a grade of at least 70/100
Student completes the ASU-PLTW course form and sends to the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering
Student provides ASU Registrar with an official high school transcript that shows they passed the PLTW course with “B” or better
The Associate Dean of the College of Engineering contacts the PLTW Instructor at the student’s high school to verify the student’s numerical average in the course and the test for college credit
The Associate Dean signs the ASU-PLTW course form and sends it to the ASU Registrar
During the first semester at ASU, the student registers for a non-credit course covering the non-engineering topics of ENGR 1402 and completes the work with a passing grade.
After the student finishes the non-credit course with a passing grade, the ASU registrar will have the PLTW course listed on their ASU transcript with a credit of 2 semester credit hours.
