The College of Engineering is composed of four undergraduate academic programs and one graduate program. The undergraduate programs include an individually-planned Engineering program (BSE), a Civil Engineering program (BSCE), an Electrical Engineering program (BSEE), and a Mechanical Engineering program (BSME). The one graduate program is the Master of Engineering Management program (MEM).
The individually-planned Engineering degree program (BSE) is accredited under the General Basic-Level Criteria by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012, Telephone: (410) 347-7700. All engineering degree programs are also accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Before ABET accreditation is granted, engineering degree programs, such as the BSCE, BSEE, and BSME programs at ASU, must meet the General Basic-Level Criteria as well as appropriate Program Criteria. Also, after having produced graduates, all programs must be reviewed by ABET for compliance, and the Engineering Accreditation Commission, which meets annually to take accreditation actions, must vote to approve accreditation of individual programs. We believe the BSCE, BSEE, and BSME degree programs offered at ASU meet ABET accreditation criteria, and we are on track to have these degree programs accredited after an ABET comprehensive review sometime in 2010. In the interim period, students may obtain the ABET-accredited BSE degree and one of the discipline-specific degrees (BSCE, BSEE, or BSME) without having to complete additional coursework.
