Course Policies


Homework:
 

Homework will be assigned but not collected. The assignments are intended to increase your understanding of the material. Homework due date is the 2nd class period after it is assigned. Selected problems may be collected as "pop" quizzes at ANY time on or after the due date.

A pop quiz WILL be collected EVERY Tuesday even if there is a test that day.

Homework MUST be presented in standard format. This includes a) statement of the problem (with a sketch), b) quantities with given values, c) quantities to be found, and d) solution of the problem.

Copying of homework is NOT allowed. If several people work together on a problem, list the names of your co-workers. Do NOT skip steps in your work. State where you get your equations and any assumptions/conditions required for its validity. There will be NO tolerance for violation of this procedure.


Exams:
 

There will be three tests approximately 4 - 5 weeks apart. Exact dates will be announced in class. Quizzes will be given periodically, some will be announced in class and some will be "pop" quizzes. No make-up tests or quizzes will be given.  Any test or quiz missed will be graded a zero. The lowest test grade will be replaced with the grade obtained on the final if it is higher. The number of quizzes given will determine the number of drop quizzes allowed.

Everyone must take the final as scheduled. Thursday, May 1 at 12:30)


Attendance:
 

The following attendance policy WILL be adhered to.
For 4 or less absences there will no effect on the final grade.
For 5 or 6 absences your final grade will be reduced by 1 letter grade.
For 7 or 8 absences your final grade will be reduced by 2 letter grades.
For 9 or 10 absences your final grade will be reduced by 3 letter grades.
For 11 or more absences your final grade will be reduced by 4 letter grades.
Any student not present by the time I complete the roll call will be considered absent.
